Europe allocates $ 106 million to fund the fight against illegal immigration in North Africa

The European Commission said on Saturday that it has agreed to provide financial support of up to 90 million euros (about 106 million US dollars) to finance several programs to address and manage the issue of illegal immigration, asylum and border management between North Africa and Europe .

European media said in comments on the decision that EU leaders agreed in their recent meetings that the focus should be on stopping immigration in countries of origin and transit, as an attempt by European leaders to control the steady flow of migrants to EU countries in the past period.

The issue of immigration is now a politically sensitive issue in Europe, where several European countries have seen bitter differences between governments and opposition parties over the issue of immigration, but have reached differences within the same coalition as happened in Germany between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her ally Interior Minister Horst Zuhfer .

“We want the new programs to be funded to prevent the flow of migrants here, but in a humanitarian way, and the real purpose of these programs is to help immigrants and fight traffickers and smugglers,” said Federica Mugherini, EU High Representative for Foreign Policy.
