“European cooperation”: 160 people killed in conflict in eastern Ukraine in 2018

More than 160 people have lost their lives in the conflict in eastern Ukraine since the beginning of this year, said Alexander Hoog, deputy head of the OSCE Special Observer Mission.

The mission confirmed that seven civilians were killed in July, while more than 160 people have been killed since the beginning of 2018, according to the Russian news agency Sputnik.

The truce violations in the crisis-torn Don bass occur despite the new ceasefire regime agreed upon by the tripartite contact group on Ukraine, including Russian, Ukrainian and OSCE representatives, which came into effect on July 1.

The conflict in Don bass began in 2014, when Kiev began a military operation against the unilaterally declared republics of Donetsk and Luhansk after they refused to recognize the new government because of legitimate concerns.
